Project Management Director –Telecom OSP

Roles and Responsibilities

You will play a major role in the growth of our company, coordinating and ensuring efficient and timely construction of new Outside Plant facilities. Your passion for excellence will help bring advanced communications capabilities at affordable prices to unserved communities throughout wide areas of California.  The majority of the work will comprise small-cell deployments on a variety of vertical structures, with a significant portion additionally focused on the construction of new towers.  A currently-small but soon to be rapidly-growing component will entail the deployment of optical fiber facilities in fiber-to-the-home scenarios.  This is a managerial role overseeing a small team of dedicated project managers.

Principal functions will include:

  • Managing a team of other project managers, and aggressively driving projects to completion
  • Identifying potential gating items and proactively devising mitigating solutions and/or contingency plans
  • Conducting regular meetings with all construction & PM teams to align goals and keep projects on track
  • Communicating with commercial tower leasing operators to facilitate our deployments on their towers
  • Coordinating with electric power utilities to ensure timely delivery of service to our tower sites
  • Directing the activities of outside contractors and other service vendors
  • Managing relationships with government jurisdictions and other external stakeholders
  • Working closely with engineering and OSP staff to develop BOMs and issue purchase orders
  • Assisting the finance department with auditing of all project-related vendor invoicing
  • Producing and maintaining final as-built plans
  • Ensuring that all project data are maintained in the company’s internal project management software
  • Documenting all work and presenting reports to upper management on a regular basis

Skills and Experience

Certifications: You will need at least a Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification; other project-management system certifications (e.g. Lean Six Sigma, etc.) would be a plus

At least 5 years’ experience in telecommunications construction project management with a progression of increasing complexity and scope, including at least 2 years’ experience in a managerial role overseeing others

Knowledge of the intricacies of civil construction projects, including public and private rights of way project deployment, along with regulatory and permitting processes

A background in small-cell or macro-cell wireless deployments and/or tower construction would be very beneficial

Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and influence others, work well under pressure, and cooperate with other company departments

Demonstrated aptitude to diagnose workflow problems and critical path dependencies, and institute remedies

Impressive ability to juggle multiple competing priorities and keep the ball rolling on each

Applicable technical skills, including:

  • Microsoft Office suite, with particular advanced strengths in Excel
  • Familiarity with mapping software, such as Google Earth or QGIS
  • Fluency with project management software
  • Experience with the Sitetracker infrastructure management software package would be ideal

Strong critical thinking and analytical skills; results-oriented with a focus on quality

Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills

Proactive mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement

Education

Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical field or in construction management.

Work Conditions

The work location will be in our headquarters building in Shingle Springs, California, though occasional work-from-home is acceptable in certain circumstances

Occasional extensive travel with company vehicle within the confines of our service area in Central/Northern California (a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required)
