Shingle Springs – October 31, 2019. Cal.net, Inc, an Internet Service Provider (“ISP”) based in Shingle Springs, CA, today announces that it has merged with Interwest Management Services, Inc. (dba “Fire2Wire”), an ISP based in Salida, CA. This merger substantially increases the geographic service area of each company, broadening the combined coverage to around 7,500 square miles and enabling seamless high-quality broadband Internet services to be delivered to most of the rural communities of the western Sierra Nevada foothills and a large portion of the southern Central Valley. The combined entities will operate under the Cal.net name, now making Cal.net one of the largest privately-owned fixed-wireless ISPs in California.
Fire2Wire began operations in 1984 as a computer sales and IT consulting company. In 2000, it debuted its high speed wireless Internet services in the rural areas of Stanislaus County. Over the following 19 years, it grew its network coverage and consulting services to 5 counties. Fire2Wire is proud to have been a leader in serving rural residential and business customers in the majority of the greater San Joaquin Valley region.
“We welcome the customers of Fire2Wire into the Cal.net family,” stated John Lane, CEO of Cal.net. “We want to assure the loyal Fire2Wire subscribers that not only will the excellent service they’ve been receiving from Fire2Wire continue, they can also look forward to further enhancements under the Cal.net banner. Over the next few months we’ll be enhancing Fire2Wire’s network to enable the deployment of higher speed packages, along with superior-quality VoIP telephony services. On top of that, additional major services will be made available next year. We are also very pleased to welcome the talented Fire2Wire employees into our family, and to growing the organization in the local Salida area as we prepare for expansion of services and coverage.”
Kristian Hoffmann, President of Fire2Wire, stated “I am personally very excited to join the great people of Cal.net to continue our mission of bringing high speed Internet service to the under-served areas of California. Cal.net’s vision and the incredible combined talent of Cal.net and Fire2Wire will only serve to speed that mission along. Fire2Wire’s existing customers can expect big things in store for 2020.”
The economies of scale of the merged operations will enable new investments into superior networking and wireless technologies that will result in increased quality and performance for both systems and enable new services to be offered within the next year. Residents and businesses in the combined coverage areas will soon be able to subscribe to service packages with speeds up to 100 Mbps in designated locales, and service density will increase, bringing these capabilities to many more locations.
