1963 This series is a great homage/spoof of the early years of the "Marvel Age of Comics". In six issues they cover the gamut from bickering superteam to insecure outcast hero to mythical god as super-hero and more. The stories and art faithfully resurrect the energy and inventiveness of those 40 year old comics, while the phony, retro ads never fail to get a laugh. The series, from Image comics, was produced to look as if it were individual issues of six on-going titles, so you may find it listed under the title of the first issue, "Mystery, Incorporated" which is a Fantastic Four spoof. From what I've seen, if you can find them, you can get them cheap, maybe a buck each or less. They're well worth it, if you've ever read a Lee/Kirby comic and felt the wonder of being a kid.
AZTEC ACE is for you, if you like time travel, pulp serials, or just plain weird stories. It hails from the early 80's, thanks to Doug Meonch and Eclipse Comics. A sophisticated plot, fun characters and numerous strange visuals keep each issue entertaining. Seek it out...! WORLD'S FINEST COMICS #236 This comic haunted me as a kid. I read it over and over and over, continually creeped out by the alien virus beings, continually in awe of the Atom shrinking Superman down to miniscule size and seeing him fly around in the grooves in the patient's skin as if they were huge canyons! The sequence where Superman is flying around inside the patient's body, forever influenced the way I picture the internal human anatomy. After years of searching, I finally found a copy (via Mile High Comics, thanks to their cover scans) and picked one up for a dollar. Yes, its a nostalgia thing, but this one lives up to its title.
