The West Coast Cajun/Zydeco Music & Dance Association was formed in the fall of 1992 by Louisiana Sue Ramon and Russell Ardoin. The primary goal of this association is to give identity and group cohesion to the West Coast Cajun, Zydeco and Creole music community as a whole, including Louisiana descended musicians and those with roots elsewhere. The association's relationship with Acadiana and Creole music is depicted in the logo by a bridge of instruments connecting the two geographical regions.
On the west coast traditional Cajun and Zydeco music remain popular but newer styles have emerged. Consequently Sue has sought to expand the categories of western-regional Cajun and Zydeco music to include the evolution of the traditional music to it's newer sounds.
The West Coast Cajun/Zydeco Music & Dance Association presented awards to musicians, promoters, pioneers and dancers in various categories at it's first annual awards dance in October 1993.
